Melbourne Corporation v Commonwealth (“Melbourne Corporation Case”) (1947) 74 CLR

This case is important in terms of State/Commonwealth relations and considered the validity of the Banking Act Cth (1945) and whether or not it was a valid exercise of the banking power in s.51(xiii) because it affected the banking activities of the States and its statutory authorities.  This case clawed back the effect of the Engineers case and gave back some power to the States.
